First Physiotherapy Appointment: What to Expect
Our clinic is located on the second floor of the plaza at 1131 Nottinghill Gate. The stairs to the second floor are located on the right side of the plaza, in the corner between the women’s clothing store (Watch Us Fashion) and the pharmacy. At the top of the stairs, turn left and you’ll find us in Suite 205!
Step 1. Bring Your New Patient Intake Forms
When you arrive at the clinic, Stephanie and Deanna will be there to welcome you! We are a family-friendly, laid back clinic and are very committed to maintaining a relaxed and patient-centered environment.
You can choose to print the forms at home and complete them before your arrival, or you can fill them out when you get to the clinic. The paperwork provides our therapists with information on your health history and your condition. Once completed, you will meet with one of our amazing physiotherapists and get your assessment and treatment started!

Step 2. Initial Assessment
The initial assessment with our physiotherapists take approximately 1 hour. During this time, the physiotherapist will ask questions about your general health, past health history, previous injuries, and detailed questions about your current condition/injury. The initial assessment conversation will help the physiotherapist understand what has been going on, what your rehabilitation goals are, and what areas to focus on during the physical part of the assessment.
Step 3. Physical Examination
In most cases, the next step is the physical exam. If the physiotherapist believes that your condition is suitable for physiotherapy, they will proceed with a physical exam. If your condition falls outside the scope of physiotherapy, our physiotherapist will discuss options for treatment and refer your to an appropriate provider. Based on your conversation, the physiotherapist will complete specific tests to determine the root cause of your pain and discomfort. Testing may include range of motion, neurologic, orthopedic, postural, and physical examinations. Nothing will be done in the clinic without your consent. The physical exam is a crucial part of the assessment and will help our physiotherapist understand your condition!
Step 4. Physiotherapy Treatment
99% of patients will receive treatment within 10 minutes of the initial exam. Our treatments are interactive, and designed for you to provide feedback throughout the treatment and express any concerns. Treatment will address the muscles, joints and other connective tissues that are affected. Treatment can include Muscle Release, joint mobilizations, IFC Therapy, and general hands on work by the physiotherapist. Treatment lasts 15 – 25 minutes (depending on the condition) and most people will notice an improvement after their first session.
Step 5. Exercise Prescription
Exercise is an important part of every recovery process. Our physiotherapists will often go through stretches and exercises on the first day of treatment so that they can be done at home. Our physiotherapists will make sure you understand proper technique, and the reason for each exercise. The exercises will be tailored to your condition and comfort level. Everybody is unique and therefore everyone requires a unique and customized treatment approach.
Step 6. Expectations
We pride ourselves on the speedy recovery of our patients. On the first visit, our physiotherapists will clearly detail prognosis, the proposed frequency of visits, at-home exercises and lifestyle tips to make your recovery as quick as possible. If the recovery does not progress as expected, we will work with the patient to re-assess and request medical tests, such as Blood Work, MRI, X-Rays and/or Ultrasound that may help. We have positive working relationships with many Medical Doctors in Oakville and will work with them to get you the care you need!
