What to expect from a session at our Acupuncture Clinic In Oakville
What should you expect from an acupuncture treatment?
On your first meeting with Dr. Jenn she will assess your condition with a thorough health history and orthopaedic exam. She will provide you with a diagnosis, discuss a proposed acupuncture treatment plan, and include an acupuncture treatment on the first visit.
Depending on the area being treated, acupuncture can be completed in a seated position, side-lying position, face up position, or face down position. The needles used are thin, surgical steel needles that are disposed of after every treatment. Typically, the needles remain inserted for 10-15 minutes, and the patient can just rest and take a midday snooze while the needles do the work!
Following an acupuncture treatment there are a few simple rules you need to follow: Drink a little bit of extra water and avoid any strenuous workouts for at least 2 hours after the treatment. That is it!
How many sessions will I need at the acupuncture clinic?
As with most conservative care therapies, the answer to this question depends on a number of factors. When determining a treatment plan at our acupuncture clinic, we take into account the overall health of the individual, the history of the condition, the specific lifestyle of the individual (example – everyday demands on the injured area, physical activity levels etc.), and how long the injury has been present.
Dr. Jenn advises her patients to try at least 4 acupuncture sessions. Most acupuncture patients notice an improvement in their pain within the first few sessions. If your pain has not improved within the first few treatments, Dr. Jenn will discuss other options for treatment.
Does my insurance plan cover acupuncture treatment?
Most extended health care plans cover acupuncture treatment. At Glen Abbey Physiotherapy, our chiropractor Dr. Jenn, does all of the acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture treatment sessions with Dr. Jenn are covered under ‘Chiropractic’ and most plans cover 80-100% of the cost.
